The heat is on not only in the kitchen.

A property close to Budmarsh decided to burn their dumping site and as nature would have it, an August wind arose and the fire spread rapidly and powerfully into the grass of the lodge.  Fortunately the dams, canals and small bodies of water on the farm prevented the fire from reaching the Lodge or the staff quarters.

The entire staff was called from various duties to fight the fire and they did a sterling job.  Yet again the Budmarsh staff was incredible.   Their dedication so often goes beyond the call of duty.  Once the fire had stopped raging, buckets of water were carried to put out any errant coals and the property was saved.

Sadly the grass is home to hundreds of black weaver birds who nest in the vlei.  Hopefully they have found somewhere to nest as the breeding season is about to begin and when the rain comes the grass will grow fresh and strong again and the birds can return to their home at Budmarsh.  We will miss them while they are gone.
